Golf Carts

Approximately 20% of all golf carts built each year are used for non-golf purposes. Golf cart sales to individuals have doubled in the past decade, while sales to golf courses have increased slightly. Golf carts have grown increasingly popular since the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration established low-speed vehicles as a new motor vehicle category in 1998, allowing states to pass legislation to legalize on-road usage of golf carts. To date, a number of townships, cities and local governments have adopted rules and regulations on the use of golf carts on public roads.

Several golf cart communities around the world have sprung up in recent years, many of which are retirement and planned communities. Some examples include:
The Villages: Retirement community in central Florida where the golf cart is the most popular mode of transportation. Golf carts are allowed on many streets and has an extensive golf cart trail system.
Peachtree City, Georgia: Majority of the population uses golf carts, especially high school students, and there are golf cart paths linking the city together.
Cataline Island, California
Hamilton Island, Queensland, Australia
Tropical Islands of Belize

Other Golf Cart Uses
Campgrounds: Many campgrounds allow the use of golf carts and may also offer golf cart rentals
College campuses: Some college campuses allow the use of golf carts by students and faculty, and may also be used by facilities and public safety personnel
Businesses: Golf carts used for transporting personnel, equipment and supplies

Golf Cart Advantages
Low cost
Energy efficient
Quiet (electric golf carts have no engine or motor)
Pollution-free (gas powered golf carts)

Prices for a new golf cart range from $4,000 to $15,000, while used golf carts start around $800. A golf cart is either electric or gas powered, and may go up to 50 miles per hour. Electric golf carts were the first to be mass-produced for private consumer use, and are emission-free, quieter and five to 10 times cheaper than gas models. The incrless popular gas golf cart provides more power and sustained use; however, it is louder and more expensive to operate than electric the golf cart. Popular golf cart brands include Club Car, E-Z-GO, Yamaha, and Harley Davidson.

A variety of parts and accessories may be purchased to personalize and customize your golf cart, including:
