What you Need to Know - Golf Basics
The rules in golf are fairly simple if you already know them, however explaining them could take a while. If you are not very familiar with the basics, the first thing you would need to know would be the main objective of the game: you have to hit the ball at the start or at the tee into the hole for every section in the course's 18 sections or 18 holes.
The hole is located on the green, which is a piece of short and well-maintained grass. Once you are already on the green, you need to use your putter, which is the club that has a slab-like end, instead of your other normal clubs.

Eventually, as you go through the game, there would be various hazards that you would have to deal with. If your ball lands on the rough, which is an area on the course that has long grass, you could find it difficult to move on from that area. There could also be trees on the rough of some courses, which could make them harder to get out of. The worst hazards would be the lakes and the ponds, because if you hit the ball into one, it would cost you the shot you took and another shot as a penalty, which would make it harder to reach par.

Choosing Golf Clubs
Ok. Here are the basics. A golf club has three parts - the head, the shaft and the grip. A standard set of golf clubs consists of three woods (the Driver, #3, and #5 fairway woods), eight irons (#3, #4, #5, #6, #7, #8, #9, and PW), and a putter - that's twelve clubs in all. According to the rules of golf, and we should all play by the rules, you can carry fourteen clubs in your bag, so many golfers add a specialty wood or another iron.
Now, let's have a look at the different types of clubs.
Drivers & Fairway woods
These clubs are used to hit longer shots. That's a basic yet apt way to look at it. If a golf hole is a par four or five from tee to green, most golfers would choose to use a wood.
The driver, or the 1 Wood, has the lowest loft of any golf club. Loft is the angle of the club face that controls trajectory and affects distance. A driver has a loft between 7 and 12 degrees. Better golfers have traditionally favored drivers with less than 10 degrees of loft, which require a lot more skill to hit.
Most golfers also carry a #3 and #5 fairway wood as part of their arsenal. A #3 wood has a loft of 15 degrees, and a #5 wood has a loft of 18 degrees. The higher the golf club number, the higher the loft. The #3 and #5 wood are commonly referred to as fairway woods, because they are most often used during the second shot of play, when you are supposed to be on the fairway.
Hybrids
Hybrids are a recent innovation to golf. A hybrid is a combination of an iron and a wood and is an easier to hit alternative to a long iron. Hybrids are versatile enough to be used in any situation. Hybrids come in a range of four lofts - 16 (#2), 19 (#3), 22 (#4) and 25 (#5) Degrees. Hybrids replace their equivalent number long iron, e.g. a #3 hybrid will replace a #3 iron and a #2 hybrid can be used to replace a #5 fairway wood.
Irons
Irons are generally used for shorter distances and more control than drivers and fairway woods. The closer you are to the green, the higher the iron you will use. A standard set of irons consists of #3, #4, #5, #6, #7, #8 and #9 and the PITCHING WEDGE (PW). A sandwedge is generally a good option to purchase for shots out of sand traps. The #3 and #4 irons are harder to hit than the higher numbered irons. Many golfers choose to replace the #3 and #4 iron with higher lofted woods or hybrids which are easier to hit than traditional long irons, resulting in comparable distances.
Wedges
Wedges are really just specialty irons. The first wedge is the Pitching Wedge (PW), which is usually between 52 and 56 degrees in loft. The PW is the highest lofted iron in a standard set and lowest loft of the wedges. Lob wedges range from 58 to 64 degrees and are used for close range short and high shots to overcome obstacles close to the green. Wedges are extremely useful for your short game and it is beneficial to keep a selection of them in your bag.
Sand Wedges are another type of wedge and are designed to get you out of the dreaded sand traps. They have a shorter shaft and a more angled face to get under the ball in order to exit a bunker.
Putters
As the adage goes "Drive for show, Putt for dough". The putter usually gets you in the hole, so it can be assumed, that choosing the right putter is critical to your game. Putters come in various styles and types.: short, belly, long, bent, center-hosel, heel-toe, mallet, and so on. When choosing a putter the main things to consider are the: weighting, balance and feel. Better putters provide alignment aids to help you visualize the line from your ball to the target.

Golf Club Custom Fitting
We all know that Golf is a game that's difficulties can induce high levels of frustrations. So the one piece of advice we have is to make sure you have the right equipment. Don't make it more difficult for yourself by using clubs that just don't feel right.
Every golfer's body and swing are unique to that individual and that's what custom fitting is all about. Custom fitting golf clubs involves a quick self assessment of your game and several easy measurements. To custom fit your golf clubs, the following information is needed:
• Your gender (male or female)
• Your height in your stockings or socks
• The distance from your wrist (where it bends) to the floor (without shoes)
• What club you use at the 135 meter marker
• Handicap, age, swing speed
Firstly, your gender is used to put you into the correct fitting scale. Then, your height and the distance in inches from your wrist to the floor are used together to determine the length of golf club that is appropriate for you. (About 80% of golfers are Standard length.)
Your age, handicap, estimated golf swing speed and club you use at the 135 meter marker are all combined to determine the shaft flex that is appropriate for you.
Club Length & Flex
With regards to the length of your club there's one main point you should consider: a longer golf club will hit further given the same swing speed - so length can be a good thing. But, as I'm sure you're thinking, it can't be that simple. And you're right! Since the swing arc is longer, it often is also harder to keep under control - so length can be a bad thing. All things being equal, most golfers will opt for longer length to the sacrifice of greater control. But there's still a decision to be made!
The standard length of a steel shafted Driver for a man is 44 inches. Graphite shafted drivers are manufactured 1 inch longer than steel shafted clubs because graphite shafts weigh less than steel shafts allowing us to produce a longer club with the same swing . The proper length of a golf club is a function of your height and the length of your arms. Some golf shop provide a Custom Fitting Wizard that determines the correct length for you with just a few simple measurements.
Flex is the torsional stiffness of the golf club, which is provided by the type of golf club shaft that is used. Generally, stiffer shafts are better for stronger hitting golfers.
The proper flex of a golf club is a function of your strength and golfing skills. Determining the correct flex is most important for your Woods and longer Irons. Short irons, wedges and putters are not impacted very much by the different flexes as the differences between flexes becomes very small in the shorter clubs.
Loft & Lie Adjustments
A lie adjustment requires bending the hardened metal in which an iron is cast. We strongly advise getting your lie fitting done in person. Online fittings while accurate do not take into account your natural ball address. Some players are more naturally upright and some like to lean into the ball. Once you have lie adjusted a club it is usually not a good idea to re-adjust if you later find it was the wrong adjustment.
From years of building experience we find it rare to need more than a 2 degree adjustment upright or flat, therefore we only perform lie adjustments to either extreme.
Woods, hybrid clubs and putters can not be adjusted. The reason these clubs can not be adjusted is because the hosel of each is cast in a way where physically bending the head at all will cause damage. In woods and hybrids it will crack or bend the crown of the club, and putter hosels are not made with the strength required for adjustment after the casting process.
Loft adjustments require a different type of bend than a lie adjustment. Some people receive advice in which they require a certain loft adjustment. We have never understood loft adjustments since it merely changes the loft of the club. We recommend buying golf clubs matching the loft you seek and avoid custom loft adjustments. Bending the loft of an iron weakens the hardened metal and can lead to future metal fatigue, since the actual bend twists the metal to an extent. If the loft of your 5 iron is too strong, use a 6 iron. If it is too weak, use a 4 iron.

I would like to introduce you to power walking and list some of the benefits it has on your golf game.

This is a form of aerobic exercise consisting of rapid walking accompanied by vigorous, controlled swinging of the arms. Simply put, it is an exaggerated walking style that has more health benefits than just a casual stroll.
You want to get your power walking speed up to 4.0 to 4.5 mph for optimal calorie burning. However, if you are just starting out you may want to go at a slower pace and gradually pick up the pace over a few weeks time.

Improve Your Golf
Improving your golf swing is possible with some minor adjustments.
Searching for the perfect golf swing has been the constant concern for countless golfers as they seek to hit the ball longer and improve their scorecards. Often, it requires only slight adjustments to greatly improve ball striking, which in turn, leads to a better game. Here are a few suggestions :
Check Your Grip
If you have a tendency to slice the ball, try adjusting your grip very slightly by turning your hands more to the right on the handle of the club (for right-handed golfers). When you look down on your grip at address, you should see two or three knuckles now that your grip is slightly stronger.
Ball Position
Where you position the ball can have a marked effect on how you strike the ball. If the ball is too far back in your stance, you may find you will hit the ball fat or push it off to the right. If the ball is placed too far forward in your stance, this can lead to topping the ball or pulling it left. Take note on your practice swing where your club bottoms out and this should help you identify the correct ball position for you.
Check Alignment
When on the practice range, observe how you are aligned when you set up to hit the ball. It is easy to let your alignment drift by opening your shoulders and this usually leads to slicing the ball. How you align your feet is also important as this can determine the direction of your ball flight. Use a golf club to check your alignment by laying it on the ground touching both feet, then step away to check where it points. You can do the same with your shoulder alignment by taking your address position and then placing your club across your chest to see where the club points.
These are jsut a few basic adjustments we can make if we feel we are not striking the ball as we would like. Try following these tips and see how it can improve your ball striking which should greatly enhance your enjoyment of the game.

Fitness Improves Your Game
You have been professionally fitted, are the proud owner of a beautiful set of new clubs and possess a couple dozen of the golf ball perfectly suited to your swing. You saw immediate results after the first round with your new goodies in all parts of your game, much to the chagrin of your golfing buddies. However, it turns out that these improvements have whetted your appetite more than fully satisfying you. You have become adjusted so quickly to your new found power and accuracy and you believe for the first time that you are ready for the next step. Your handicap has dropped from 18 down to 12 and you now dream of being a single digit player. Heck, scratch isn't that far away.
What is the next step? The one that will help you realize the most significant improvement and get you closer to your goals? You have talked to your golf friends, read all of the magazines and spent countless hours on the internet researching what to do next that will result in as much gain as the club fitting did for you. You have been told or read that perhaps you need to change your swing to get more on plane; get wider at the top; fully cock your wrists or cock them earlier in the backswing; or, is it that your quickest gain is more shoulder width? Others have urged you to get more torque in the lower body; and, so many other ideas that you are frustrated instead of ready to move forward. I also get told frequently, “I just don't have time to exercise daily because I have to work and my family and friends take all the rest of my time.” I write to you what I tell my students. “You can always find 20-30 minutes a day and not only will your game improve, but you will also gain in virtually all other aspects of your life.” Weight control or loss will be a positive side-effect. Your doctor will be favorably impressed during your next visit. Your overall health will improve more over time. You'll be more active and alert in the evening after a tough day of work and your family will appreciate it greatly. Yes, even you wife will wonder about the new you as you become more romantic and amorous.

Am I trying to sell you a special golf exercise program? No, there are no tricks. It is that simple. The 20 minute walk 5-7 times a week will strengthen your lower body, which will help you gain more distance and control. It will also keep you more mentally alert in the later parts of the round that will help you avoid the mental errors common to fatigue, such as club and target selection.
“Okay,” you say, “I understand the value of the daily walk, but what do I do for the 10 minute exercise time?” Again, I advocate that you model the experts. Tiger Woods focuses strongly on his core as clearly evident when he prowls the fairways late in a round. All of the touring pros strengthen their core as an integral part of the daily regime. Take the 10 minutes per day and do exercises that will strengthen your core. There are literally hundreds of exercises available to you, some that use weights and many that do not require weights. You need to select ones that you do not mind doing. I recommend mixing it up to avoid making it a chore. Personally, I use a variety of routines to include 2-3 daily ones that include the use of an inversion table. There are two things that are important. One, spend the 10 minutes. Two, do whatever it is that does not bore you.
If you still believe that you don't have the time then understand that you can break it into two segments. Take the 20 minutes walk and then do the 10 minute exercise session at some other time that better fits your busy schedule. The time you do the two does not matter, but do take the effort and you will be greatly pleased with the rewards.

Rules of the Masters Tournament
The Masters golf tournament is the most prestigious in the world. With this come rules and etiquette that the tournament expects from players and spectators alike.
To begin with, the tournament follows traditional golf tournament formatting. It is held over 4 days, and is a 72-hole tournament. It is follows the rules of golf, under the United States Golf Association, which is pretty much part and parcel with the R&A. But the tournament also has special regulations set by the Masters Tournament Committee.
Held every April, it hosts the PGA, PGA European and Japan Golf Tours. Another important aspect, regarding the format rules, is that it is a stroke play tournament like the other Major tournaments. Equally, handicaps etc is not used by the tournament.
It is an invitational event. By and large, what this means is unlike the US Open the masters does not allow for open qualification but instead regards players as invited guests. Players who meet published criteria are usually invited on an automatic basis.
Invitation applies to the top 50 golfers in the Official Golf World Rankings. Past Champions are also invited, along with the US Open Champions and PGA Champions. The tournament also extends its invitations to British amateur champions and US. In addition, the 16 top finishers of the previous Masters tournament are granted automatic entry, including the first 8 of the previous US open. By and large, the invitation regulations restrict the tournament largely to the PGA field.
Given the relatively small field of the Masters, groups are sized to three players for the first 36 holes. After participants have played all these holes, the cut is applied. Players who make this are applied one of two categories, the lowest 44 scores plus ties, or within 10 strokes of the lowest score as set by the leader. These players go into the final competitive round.
The tournament also has etiquette, which applies to both players and spectators. To begin with, the tournament follows traditional golf tournament formatting. It is held over 4 days, and is a 72-hole tournament. It is follows the rules of golf, under the United States Golf Association, which is pretty much part and parcel with the R&A. But the tournament also has special regulations set by the Masters Tournament Committee.
Held every April, it hosts the PGA, PGA European and Japan Golf Tours. Another important aspect, regarding the format rules, is that it is a stroke play tournament like the other Major tournaments. Equally, handicaps etc is not used by the tournament.
It is an invitational event. By and large, what this means is unlike the US Open the masters does not allow for open qualification but instead regards players as invited guests. Players who meet published criteria are usually invited on an automatic basis.
Invitation applies to the top 50 golfers in the Official Golf World Rankings. Past Champions are also invited, along with the US Open Champions and PGA Champions. The tournament also extends its invitations to British amateur champions and US. In addition, the 16 top finishers of the previous Masters tournament are granted automatic entry, including the first 8 of the previous US open. By and large, the invitation regulations restrict the tournament largely to the PGA field.
Given the relatively small field of the Masters, groups are sized to three players for the first 36 holes. After participants have played all these holes, the cut is applied. Players who make this are applied one of two categories, the lowest 44 scores plus ties, or within 10 strokes of the lowest score as set by the leader. These players go into the final competitive round.

Golfers who can't make the short little putt HAS THE YIPS.
A lot of people play golf in the world today, and many of them want to play their best or go competitive with it. A lot of them just want have a good time. Well, normally when a golfer starts getting into a competitve world with golf, it can lead to bad mental thoughts over pressure putts which would lead them to miss it. After they miss one they think they will miss them all then it turns ugly. People have called the yips a golfers disease but is it really? No. I struggled with the yips and it is all completely mental. I would be in a tournament and i would miss a 2 ft putt for birdy. Then i would miss the 2ft putt for par and walk away with a bogey.
Ive beat the yips though. What worked for me is I practiced a ton, and then developed a pre-shot routine for my putting. I did the same thing everytime, here it is:
Lined it up from both sides - did this to get a good view of the break of putt
Once ready, go up to the ball and take 2 practice swings - to get a feel for how hard to hit it, should be same size as you want your real putt to be
Took two looks at the hole then stroked it
After doing the routine it got me more focused and relaxed over those putts. Then i got advice from a friend to pick a spot halfway to the hole and putt to that, and don't even look at the hole. That helped a ton and i still do that today. If your struggling with the yips, dont get mad. That is the worst thing you can do and it isn't helpful. I know that it is very hard not to get mad after missing a 2ft putt, but, getting mad makes it worse. You have to forget all the past putts and move on and just know that you can't make every single putt.

The pro said, "to only practice the short game on grass and totally avoiding practice on rubber mats at the golf range." The theory is to play with a nine-iron or wedge for the entire nine holes. Thus players must play at par-3 or executive golf courses to accomplish what the golf pro wants done.
My friend attempted to practice solely on grass by playing par-3 golf courses. The frustration became apparent through the time spent waiting for other golfers to play their rounds and not achieving positive results on a consistent basis. Time is a crucial factor for the beginning golfer due to it being limited, because the majority of players can play or practice on weekends.

I suggested that my friend go to the public park to practice his short game or hit a small buckett of balls at the golf range. He decided to make a change and experienced success. The end result cut strokes off his game and he enjoyed playing golf much more.

Improve Yo0ur Swing - Practice Without a Golf Ball
Why is that so many amateur golfers have beautiful practice swings and yet have great difficulty when it comes to the real thing? Take the ball away and they swing like Jack Nicklaus. Place a ball in front of them and suddenly they are swinging more like Jack Lemmon. The practice swing is the easiest shot to play in golf! The freedom you enjoy when swinging a golf club with no intention of striking a ball allows you to swing with ease, tension free and with no anxiety over slicing, hooking, chumping, whiffing or skulling.
If only it was that easy when you stand with your ball on a tee peg and with your playing partners and others watching as you try to get the ball airborne. Why is a practice swing so easy? Why does it often differ so much from your real swing? The answer is it is tension-free. When you swing a golf club with no intention of hitting the golf ball, your focal point changes. You are now concentrating on how you swing rather than how you hit. When you have a golf ball placed in front of you, this becomes your main focus and suddenly, all your good swing thoughts take second place.
THE IMPORTANCE OF THE PRACTICE SWING
The key to making good, crisp contact with your irons or a powerful sweeping strike with your woods is to somehow translate your practice swing into the real one. Have you ever heard professional golfers and teachers talk about "swinging through the ball"? What they are saying in effect is that you swing the golf club as you would in practice and simply allow the ball to get in the way. The problem most club golfers have is that they "hit" at the ball as opposed to swinging through it. If you can use your practice swing and connect with the ball, you will gain more distance and accuracy as a result.
The real problem with "hitting" at the ball is that it tends to destroy your swing plane. The shoulder comes in too early, the club is pushed outside the desired line and the result is that you either make bad contact by hitting the ground just before the ball, or you cut across the ball, producing a weak slice. On the other hand, if you can maintain your swing as you do in practice, the club will naturally continue on its path because you are still on plane and this will create a more powerful, accurate strike.
MAKING IT WORK ON THE GOLF COURSE
The tension-free sensation of swinging a golf club without attempting to hit the ball is one that should be practiced often, even when you are not on the golf course. Grooving a fluid, smooth golf swing is more likely to be achieved without a golf ball. If your home allows it, you could swing a golf club in your living room or garage, or if that isn't possible, out in the garden. Just finding somewhere you can swing a golf club freely can have a more positive effect on your golf game than pounding balls on the driving range.

If only it was that easy when you stand with your ball on a tee peg and with your playing partners and others watching as you try to get the ball airborne. Why is a practice swing so easy? Why does it often differ so much from your real swing? The answer is it is tension-free. When you swing a golf club with no intention of hitting the golf ball, your focal point changes. You are now concentrating on how you swing rather than how you hit. When you have a golf ball placed in front of you, this becomes your main focus and suddenly, all your good swing thoughts take second place.
THE IMPORTANCE OF THE PRACTICE SWING
The key to making good, crisp contact with your irons or a powerful sweeping strike with your woods is to somehow translate your practice swing into the real one. Have you ever heard professional golfers and teachers talk about "swinging through the ball"? What they are saying in effect is that you swing the golf club as you would in practice and simply allow the ball to get in the way. The problem most club golfers have is that they "hit" at the ball as opposed to swinging through it. If you can use your practice swing and connect with the ball, you will gain more distance and accuracy as a result.
The real problem with "hitting" at the ball is that it tends to destroy your swing plane. The shoulder comes in too early, the club is pushed outside the desired line and the result is that you either make bad contact by hitting the ground just before the ball, or you cut across the ball, producing a weak slice. On the other hand, if you can maintain your swing as you do in practice, the club will naturally continue on its path because you are still on plane and this will create a more powerful, accurate strike.
MAKING IT WORK ON THE GOLF COURSE
The tension-free sensation of swinging a golf club without attempting to hit the ball is one that should be practiced often, even when you are not on the golf course. Grooving a fluid, smooth golf swing is more likely to be achieved without a golf ball. If your home allows it, you could swing a golf club in your living room or garage, or if that isn't possible, out in the garden. Aim for the front of the ball. When you make eye contact on the ball, swing as if you intend to hit the front of the ball rather than the spot where the club actually makes contact with the ball.
When making a put, line up the writing on the ball with where you are aiming for in relation to the slope. If you are down a couple degrees and to the right of a slope, line the letters on the ball up one degree to the left of the hole.
When driving, try not to crush the ball. Trying to smash the ball when you are not a pro will get you as far as the woman's tee. When you are a beginner, it is best to try and make contact.
Pull your backswing back slowly. Being impatient and rushing your backswing will take your aim off the ball before you make contact.
When making iron shots in the fairway, shoot for the ball as if you are trying to scoop up some earth with it; this will provide you with more loft (especially with your low irons). If you do not do this, you will simply be rolling your ball along the fairway picking up lots of strokes and missing out on much needed loft that it will take you to make it to the green.
Refrain from caffeinated beverages. You might think slamming coffee or energy drinks will improve your game but they will not. Caffeine and energy drink products will make you jittery and less relaxed resulting in a deficiency of accuracy.
Pay attention to the wind. When making distance shots that will produce loft, make sure you adjust to the wind accordingly. You can even do the "ol "throw a piece of grass in the air' trick to see what direction the wind is blowing. Adjusting your stance according to the direction of the wind will land you on the fairway every time. Not doing so will put you in the drink or in the forest always.
